Sally Dankas
About
Hi, I’m Sally Dankas, founder of Going Your Own Way, a trained end-of-life doula based in Brooklyn, NY.
I provide non-medical emotional, practical, and informational support to individuals and families navigating serious illness, caregiving, aging, and the end of life. Whether you’re planning ahead, supporting a loved one through decline, or facing a terminal diagnosis, I offer guidance, companionship, and clear-headed support when things feel most overwhelming.
My path to this work began when I left my career to care for my mother full-time during her final weeks. I coordinated with hospice, managed her care, and experienced firsthand the gaps in support that families often face. That experience shapes how I show up for clients today.
Before becoming a doula, I spent more than 20 years in Human Resources, helping people navigate complex situations, difficult conversations, and major life transitions. I also bring several years of direct experience as a companion to older adults living with dementia and cognitive decline, with specialized training through Inspired Memory Care, Dementia by Day, and VNS Health.
My services include end-of-life guidance, advance care planning, vigil planning, caregiver support, and respite visits. Some clients come while healthy and planning ahead; others reach out during a crisis or as death approaches.
Trained through INELDA and Going with Grace, NEDA Proficiency Certified, and SAGECares trained for affirming care with LGBTQ+ individuals and families.
Available locally in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and virtually nationwide. Sliding-scale options are available.
