Joseph “Duke” Filonowicz is an American Philosophical Practitioners of America-certified
philosophical counselor, award-winning university teacher (retired), and published author in the field of moral philosophy (Fellow-Feeling and the Moral Life, Cambridge University Press, 2008/14). He earned
the Ph.D. in philosophy from Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 1985. He is currently a “Reading Partner” under the auspices of AmeriCorps, an “academic intervention” reading tutor at Public School 185 in
Brooklyn, and a practicing member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. His practice as an End-of-Life doula is informed by his philosophical training and research, his experience in philosophical counseling, his extensive tutoring work with children and adults of all ages, and his love of volunteer work in the Brooklyn community.
