About

I became passionate about affording the terminally ill and the elderly, a dignified death after the death of two of my sisters to cancer, and my elderly mother, who died of organ failure at the age of 94. I was honoured to take care of them in the final days of their lives.

I pursued training in caring for the dying by successfully completing two international online Death Doula courses between 2018 and 2019. I was concerned that at that time, there was no course available for the South African audience. This prompted me to create a three module, online course, which has been successfully implemented since July 2019.

Sacred Dying SA was established as a Non-profit organisation in 2019 and boasts a growing community of Death Doulas in all provinces throughout South Africa.

Mona Minnaar is the Founding Director of Sacred Dying SA, whose sole purpose is to train Companion (Death) Doulas throughout South Africa, enabling them to serve their communities with honor and dignity.

Mona has completed many holistic therapy courses and holds numerous certificates and diplomas in holistic health, which knowledge she lovingly shares with her students and on social media.

She teaches that by embracing a holistic approach to life and death, assists with understanding death with ease and that there is nothing fearful about death, it is a special time for the dying and the living to partake in a very special way that can only be referred to as the final gift of love.
