We are honored to invite NEDA members to an exclusive virtual screening of the award-winning documentary, A Butterfly Has Been Released, a moving and transformative film that explores dying, caregiving, legacy, and what it truly means to live with intention on August 20 2026, at 8 pm EDT.

The documentary follows Allyson, a hospice nurse diagnosed with life-limiting brain cancer, during the final 39 days of her life. With extraordinary honesty, authenticity, and even humor, Allyson welcomes viewers into her deeply personal journey as she navigates the transition from caregiver to patient.

Rather than hiding from death, Allyson embraces it with courage and agency. She hosts her own living funeral, chooses a natural green burial, and intentionally creates opportunities for connection, reflection, and legacy with those she loves. Her openness offers an intimate glimpse into the dying process while challenging many of the assumptions our society holds about death and dying.

Following the screening, NEDA members may participate in a facilitated discussion where we will reflect on both the personal and professional impact of the film.
